Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego is the heart of the city. Comprising 16.5 blocks, the Gaslamp Quarter has become the premier location for entertainment and business.
From Broadway to Harbor Drive and from 4th to 6th avenues the Nationally Registered Gaslamp District contains 94 historic buildings. Many of the historic buildings are from the Victorian Era and are used as shops,restaurants, and nightclubs. The Gaslamp Quarter sign located just in front of the trolley stop a couple blocks in front of the convention center marks the beginning of this historic cultural center.

Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter is probably the biggest event that happens here, but many other events like ShamROCK on St. Patrick's Day also draw large crowds to the Gaslamp District.

The Gaslamp Quarter from a local's perspective is that this area has been one of the major success stories here in San Diego. The revitalization of the Gaslamp during the 1980's and 1990's changed the dynamics of San Diego. Hanging out downtown just would not be the same without it. With the baseball stadium a block away, the Quarter is the perfect place to grab a drink after the game. At night, the clubs here attract well dressed high class fun which is the opposite of what you will find at the more laid back beach towns. The Gaslamp Quarter is rather expensive, but variety of dining and shopping choices here more then make up for it.
