Skate Parks
San Diego is a 'Mecca' of Skateboarding and for good reason as San Diego is home to many skate parks. There are many skate boarding shops around town to find the right equipment, expert advice, and practical tips for beginners, intermediate, and advanced skateboarders.
Local skate parks in San Diego are occasionally free but most of them operate on a membership/fee system. The membership fee system allows users to purchase monthly membership packages or they can choose to pay for a daily use fee giving them access for just that session. The skate parks that charge fees usually operate in skating sessions where a maximum amount of skaters are allowed in for a couple hour session. These sessions run throughout the day and by limiting the number of skaters allows for more space to ride and greater safety. Skate parks require helmets and pads. Pads required are those for the knees and elbows, however wrist guards are highly recommended. A few skate parks like the popular Ocean Beach Skate Park located in Robb Field allow visitors to rent equipment.
